MORPH

UNIVERSITY OF QUEENSLAND, BRISBANE

Created to embody the role of history and memory when designing buildings, places, and environments. Formed from critical analysis and observational mapping of context and site.

Influenced by the surrounding environment, primarily the rocky qualities of the river’s edge, Morph takes on a building form which reflects the idea of stacking rocks. Stacking rocks can balance, when constructed in a manner which reflects peace and tranquillity but can be still knocked over from any amount of natural force, this is where Morph differs. Morph has been created through flood resilient construction, namely a concrete exhibition podium which as working its way up the stack, dissimilates into a timber finish to reflect the materiality of the natural surrounding of the river edge forest scrub. This construction allows for the design to be resilient to the point of the flood lines while ensuing a lighter atmosphere as the user moves towards the upper student levels.
